Costs of Participating

The 2026–2027 fee summary, itemized. Money should never be an obstacle to scouting.

1. Annual Troop Program Fee — $250 per scout

Due annually in August. Cross-over Cub Scouts pay at the start of 6th grade, which allows a free trial period first.

What the program fee covers

  • Regular troop meetings and baseline program activities
  • Baseline outing costs for monthly campouts, including campsite reservations and baseline adult chaperone costs (food and fuel)
  • Annual troop Class B t-shirt and hoodie
  • Advancement rank and merit badge patches and awards
  • Communal troop gear: the scout hut, trailer, cooking gear, troop tents, and more
  • National dues and training for primary troop adult volunteer leaders
  • Insurance for our local sponsor
  • Gifts to new scouts entering the troop, plus the Scout Handbook and shirt epaulets
  • Gifts to scouts reaching Eagle rank

Outings have additional per-trip costs

The program fee covers the baseline, but each outing also carries participation costs for food, transportation, and activity fees such as rafting, a hotel where applicable, the ferry, or merit badge classes. Budget roughly $25 to $50+ per campout.

2. Annual National Dues — Paid by Each Family

Families are responsible for renewing scout and adult registrations online.

  • $85 per year for youth, $65 per year for adults
  • Renew at my.Scouting.org
  • Renewal dates are unique to each individual. Renew before your expiration date.
  • Scouts not previously registered use the online application; ask a leader for Troop 101's link

3. Uniforms — Purchased by Family

A Class A (khaki) uniform shirt runs about $75 and up. Troop 101 does uniforms from the waist up, so the hat, socks, belt, and neckerchief are all optional. Full uniform guidance →

4. Camping Gear — Built Up Gradually

Scouts build their own camping and hiking kit as they develop. There is no need to buy everything at once, and troop gear is available to borrow. The troop supplies all group cooking gear: stoves, pots, pans, cooking tools, fuel, and dutch ovens. See the gear guide →

Fundraising

The troop runs two fundraisers a year, the Christmas tree pickup and sales in late November through early January, and the Inman Park Festival in April. Scout participation in fundraising helps keep program fees down for everyone.

Money should never be an obstacle to scouting. Assistance is available and handled confidentially. Please speak with the Scoutmaster or any committee member.
