Troop 101 runs an outing almost every month of the program year, planned by the scouts themselves. A typical year mixes skill-building weekends, adventure trips, and service.

The annual program fee covers the baseline of every campout: campsite reservations and baseline adult chaperone costs for food and fuel. Individual outings carry additional participation costs for food, transportation, and activity fees such as rafting, a hotel where applicable, the ferry, or merit badge classes. Summer camp is the single most valuable week in a scout's year, especially the first one. Most early rank requirements are met at camp, and scouts knock out several merit badges in a week.

Older scouts, generally 14 and up, can take on high adventure. Scouting America operates four national high adventure bases: Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, Florida Sea Base, and the Northern Tier canoe bases. Troop 101 plans high adventure for June and July; talk to our high adventure coordinator, Amy Foster.
NYLT is a week-long youth leadership course run by the council for scouts who have held or are moving into troop leadership positions. It is a significant step up in responsibility and a prerequisite for some council-level roles. Sessions run in November, December, April, and May–June. Register through the Atlanta Area Council →
